Itās hard to believe Iām already heading into Week 5 of my 6-week nesting journey. Last week was huge for meāand I honestly owe it to one major change: maternity leave has officially begun. With full days to focus on prepping for baby #2 and spending extra time with my toddler, Iām finally feeling like Iāve hit my stride. š

š„ Decluttering Complete ā And It Feels SO Good
After weeks of chipping away at clutter, I finally tackled the last of it. And let me tell youādecluttering is weirdly therapeutic. Thereās something incredibly satisfying about walking into a space thatās fully organized, whereĀ everything has a place. For the first time in what feels like forever, we can actually walk into ourĀ walk-in storage closetāand everything inside is tucked neatly into labeled bins.
š”Ā Storage Tip: I found thatĀ 66-quart clear storage binsĀ were a great universal size for organizing everything from baby clothes to postpartum supplies. I grabbed several ofĀ these binsĀ and added a few smallerĀ 19-quart onesĀ for more random odds and ends. Game changer!
šļø We even filled our giant waste bag this week, and Iāve scheduled the pickup!
š§© Room Progress ā Flooring, Furniture, & Next Steps
Another major milestone: we ordered new carpet for our sonās room. The company came out Monday to give an estimate and wrapped up the install by Friday. (Quick turnaround FTW!)
Now weāre just waiting on our contractor to reinstall the baseboards and a basic built-in cabinet in the closet. Thatās scheduled for early this weekāonce thatās done, weāll start transitioning our son into his new room so we can prep the nursery for our daughter.
š¶ The dresser/changing table is still en route, and once that arrives, it will unlock the final phase of getting both rooms totally set up. Unfortunately that will likely not come till week 6. Reminder order furniture and items you need early.
š§¼ Light Cleaning & Life Balance
Instead of diving into deep cleaning this week, I pivoted. I focused on light cleaning to get the house āguest-readyā in case anything unexpected happens. Is it as clean as Iād like? No. But itās clean enough, and thatās a win!
We even snuck in a little date night this weekend! My brother watched our son while my husband and I grabbed dinner and caught a movie. It was our first proper night out in a while and reminded me how important it is to make time for us, even during the chaos.
šļø Week 5 Priorities: Nesting Goals
Hereās what Iāve got planned for this week:
1. Clean Out the Freezer
Iām making room forĀ breast milk storage, since I plan to breastfeed and pump extra once baby girl arrives. Didnāt get to it last week, but itās a top priority now!

2. Deep Clean the Entire House
Weāre talking showers, tubs, baseboards, couches, and floors. I know coming home to a clean house will make the newborn haze feel a little less overwhelming.
3. Set Up the Kidsā Rooms
Once our son’s room is complete, weāll finally start putting everything in its placeāincluding all theĀ Prime Day goodies we ordered. I also plan toĀ test the new monitorĀ this week to avoid any return window issues.
4. Pack My Hospital Bag
Yes, I know itās earlyābut my husband gently (and wisely) reminded me how chaotic things were last time when our son came early. Iām determined not to repeat that panic!

š” What Iāve Learned This Week
One of the biggest takeaways from this journey so far is:
š Make your list, but be flexible.
You might not hit everything exactly on scheduleābut if you stay focused on the high-priority items, youāll get where you need to be. I was feeling behind just a couple of weeks ago, but as I enter Week 5, Iām actually feeling pretty confident.
Moms, give yourselfĀ grace. Things wonāt always go as planned. Focus on progress, not perfection. Also, be okay with what you do accomplish during your nesting journey. Have your checklist but highlight the priorities. One thing motherhood has taught me is things don’t always go as planned but being as prepared as possible helps. And since we are all busy and usually are doing things until the last minute prioritizing the most important things first will help if baby comes before the deadline you set.
