I can’t believe I’ve finally entered my last week of nesting! We’re just over three weeks away from my due date, and things are really starting to fall into place. Week 5 was a huge turning point — the nursery furniture (which I didn’t expect until this week) arrived early, my son’s room is almost completely set up, and my husband has been a superhero putting together furniture and clearing our foyer of the mountain of boxes.
On top of that, I got a lot of cleaning done, which makes me feel so much more prepared in case our little girl decides to arrive early. We made space in the freezer for breastmilk, and we packed our hospital bags — so we’re officially ready to go whenever she is.

Packing a “Just in Case” Bag for My Son
Something I realized last week while packing our hospital bags — if the baby comes early, my son might need his own “go bag.” If she arrives right on time, my parents will already be at our house to watch him. But if she decides to surprise us, it will take them 6–8 hours to get here.
In that case, we’ll need a backup plan. Ideally, a family member or friend could stay at our house so my son can stay in his routine. But if he needs to spend a half-day at someone else’s home, I want him to have everything he needs.
So, I packed him a small bag with:
- Diapers and wipes
- Clothes
- Sippy cups
- A few favorite toys
Since he’s a great eater, food isn’t a big concern. I’m leaving our Nuna URBN Car Seat at daycare in case someone else needs to pick him up. If you’ve read my post 10 Baby Products that Saved My Sanity as a New Mom, you know how much I love this seat — no base required, super easy to move between cars, and a total lifesaver for situations like this.
My Week 6 Nesting Priorities
This final week is all about the little details that will make a big difference when our daughter arrives.
1. Set Up Bottle Cabinet
I’ll be bringing out my Dr. Brown’s Sanitizer to sanitize all bottles, pacifiers, and feeding accessories. Once sanitized, I’ll neatly organize them in bins so they’re ready to grab when needed.
2. Restock & Organize My Postpartum Cart
If you’ve seen these on Instagram, you know why I love them. I use a rolling cart so I can move it from room to room. This week, I’ll stock it with postpartum care essentials (ice packs, approved medications, nursing pads), breastfeeding and pumping gear, snacks, and my 40 oz Stanley cup for hydration.
3. Wash Baby’s Clothes & Bedding
I’ll wash everything in a sensitive-skin detergent, including a few newborn outfits, sheets, and blankets. Pro tip: don’t wash all the newborn clothes before your baby is born — bigger babies often skip this size completely.
4. Install the Car Seat
The hospital won’t let you leave without a car seat, so this is a must-do. Our newborn will be using my son’s current seat, and he’ll switch to a convertible seat that will last through the booster stage. For now, he’ll keep using the Nuna URBN so a friend or family member can easily put this in their car if the new baby comes early.
Other To-Dos for This Week
- Final Deep Clean: Just a few more spots to tackle so everything feels fresh.
- Make Freezer Meals: For us and for my son — so my parents have easy options when they’re here helping.
Once all this is done, I can finally relax — which means binge-watching TV and soaking up the last few weeks of being a family of three before our baby girl arrives.
