Let’s be real: baby registries can get out of control fast. With my first baby, I registered for every cute gadget and “must-have” trending on Pinterest. Fast-forward to sleepless nights and spit-up-soaked laundry, and I quickly realized what I actually used — and what just took up space.
Now that I’m prepping for baby #2, I’ve created a smarter, more practical registry based entirely on what I actually used (and what I wish I had the first time). These are the real MVPs for the first three months — the hazy, magical, exhausting newborn phase.
If you’re building your registry, trust me: these are the 10 products you’ll reach for daily.
1. A good breast pump
Even if you plan to breast feed a good breast pump is necessary. Ideally you will want both a powerful pump for home and portable pumps you can take with you on the go. Hands down, the best breast pump I’ve used is the Spectra S1. Sanitizing bottles, pacifiers, and pump parts is a daily chore — but this sterilizer makes it so much easier. It steams and dries everything in one go, saving time and counter space. It’s a total registry must. You will want this on-hand before baby is born so you can sterilize new models before you get home from the hospital.

3. Hatch Rest Sound Machine
Babies sleep better with white noise. This sound machine has saved my sleep more times than I can count. Bonus: it doubles as a night light and grows with your baby into toddlerhood. I loved it so much, I bought a second for baby #2.
4. Snuggle Me Organic Baby Lounger
This cozy lounger hugs baby’s body for a calming, womb-like feel — perfect for those cluster-feeding, fussy days. It’s great for supervised lounging and a true lifesaver when you just need a minute to not hold a baby.

5. Baby Bottles + Storage Organizer
No matter how you feed, you’ll end up using bottles — and a lot of them. Dr. Brown’s were our faves. I also highly recommend some storage bins to keep everything neat and easy to grab in the middle of the night.

6. Pampers Diapers and Wipes
You’ll go through 8–12 diapers a day in those early weeks. I found Pampers Swaddlers to be the most reliable — no leaks, super soft, and perfect for sensitive skin. Don’t forget a big stash of wipes, too!

7. Zipper Baby Onesies (Lots of Them!)
You do not want to deal with snaps at 3 a.m. Trust me. Look for footed onesies with two-way zippers. They’re easy for diaper changes and comfy enough for baby to live in. Unless we were taking photos, my son only wore onesies for his first 3 months. I recommend registering for at least 8–10.

9. Crib You Can Use From Day One
Some parents use a bassinet, but I transitioned to the crib quickly and honestly am so glad I did. My baby has slept through the night since 10 weeks. Look for one that’s safe, adjustable, and fits your nursery layout. Simple is better — I’ve had friends who have gotten the new modern cribs that mimic baby being rocked to sleep. Their babies became dependent on these and are struggling to sleep through the night when they get older.

What I Wish I Knew as a First-Time Mom
Building your baby registry doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Focus on items that will make your life easier, especially during those intense first three months. You don’t need five swaddles in five fabrics or a bottle warmer that connects to your Wi-Fi.
You need gear that works, gear you’ll actually use, and gear that keeps baby safe and happy.
