I seriously can’t believe I’m already halfway through my 6-week nesting challenge. Week 3 is officially in the books—and so is my last day of work! It’s now week 4 and I’m officially on maternity leave. While I’ve gotten a ton done, it still feels like there’s plenty left on my list. The good news? With work behind me, I can now fully focus on getting ready for baby girl… and maybe sneak in a little rest (finally!).
Feeling Close, Even Though I’m Not Quite There Yet
If you’ve been following along, you know I’ve been having Braxton Hicks contractions for almost a month now. They’re no joke, and with every crampy squeeze, I feel like I’m getting closer and closer—even though I’m still six weeks from my due date. I’m keeping in mind that I’ll be wrapping up everything three weeks before my due date (aka two weeks before my scheduled c-section). My son came a little over two weeks early, and I refuse to be caught off guard this time around. With a toddler running around while prepping for another newborn, staying organized is more important than ever.
The Start of Leave: A Slow Roll Into Productivity
This week was a little less productive than the last few. Some unexpected work stuff popped up that kept me pretty busy right up until my leave officially started on Thursday. That morning, I had a quick OB appointment—no ultrasound, just the basics: weight, belly measurement, heartbeat check, and some tips from my doctor on how to stay as comfortable as possible during these last weeks.
Afterward, I treated myself to a little solo time. Coffee, a bit of shopping, and some random errands just for me. It felt nice to have a few uninterrupted hours to myself. By Friday, though, exhaustion hit hard. I gave myself permission to just crash on the couch and watch way too much Shark Week. No regrets.
Weekend Wins: Decluttering & Realizations
By the weekend, I rallied and got back to nesting mode. I tackled more decluttering, and wow… how do we accumulate so much stuff? I’ve seriously had a moment of reckoning. There were so many little things I bought over the past year that I’m now tossing or donating. Note to self: think twice before buying that random toddler gadget.
Big win of the weekend: my daughter’s crib arrived, and my husband set it up (cue nesting joy!). I also made some headway scheduling important appointments and officially built out my comprehensive nesting to-do list. I’ll be sharing that checklist at the end of this 6-week series, so make sure you’re subscribed to the blog so you don’t miss it!
Furniture Delivery Delay = Planning Pivot
One hiccup: I realized this week that most of the nursery furniture won’t be delivered for another two weeks. That means some of my nesting tasks will be pushed to the final week. If you’re prepping a nursery, let this be your friendly reminder—order furniture early! Any task that depends on furniture being in place can’t be completed until it arrives. Lesson learned.
Week 4 Focus Areas:
✅ 1. Finish Decluttering
I’ve made major progress over the past couple of weeks, but my goal this week is to completely finish tossing, donating, or organizing anything we no longer need. I want a clean slate to move forward with.
✅ 2. Deep Clean the House
On deck this week is a top-to-bottom deep clean—starting with the freezers. Why? Because I plan to build a serious breast milk stash again this time around. With my son, I was lucky to produce extra, and I want to make sure I have plenty of freezer space ready to go.

Once I finish the deep clean, I know I’ll need to maintain it—but having it done early means I can shift my focus to final tasks as the due date nears.
✅ 3. Knock Out Admin To-Dos
This week I’m also taking care of a few “not fun but necessary” administrative tasks:
- Updating our will (ugh, but important)
- Registering with the hospital for delivery. Depending on your provider and hospital, you may need to do this in advance, so be sure to ask!

Wrapping Up Week 4
Although this week was a bit slower than others, I’m proud of the continued momentum. It’s not about perfection—it’s about progress. And I’m getting closer to that feeling of “ready” with every passing day.
